ARK Update: Plant Kits, Engineering Progress & Delivery Timing

Hi everyone,
I’m excited to share a different kind of ARK update-one focused less on the device and app, and more on the living part of the experience.
Last week I was in Florida with our plant supplier, working directly with the nursery team as we assemble, and refine our plant kits that will accompany ARK. Many of our backers purchased one of our kits so its been incredibly exciting to see this side of the project come to life in person. Its really all about the plants!
We are carefully considering each plant combination, how the kits will look inside ARK, and how the plants work together within their intended environment. This is a very different part of the process than the hardware, engineering, and app updates I’ve shared previously-and one that makes the overall ARK experience feel much more real.

Engineering Progress
On the product-development side, we have also received an updated ARK sample from the factory. The team is continuing to make steady progress on the engineering, necessary refinements, features, testing, software, and app experience.
There is still important work ahead, but development is moving forward consistently. Each round of testing gives us clearer direction on what needs to be improved so we can deliver a product that works reliably and feels polished when it reaches you.
In our next update, I’ll share more photos and details from the latest sample which is pretty exciting to see. We are optimizing the misting/Watering system and already have fixed quite a few of the engineering issues that have popped up.
Delivery Timeline Update
I also want to provide a transparent update on timing.
As we continue development and testing, we’ve identified a few areas that need more work before we can responsibly move into final production and fulfillment. These include necessary refinements to the units, continued testing, required features, and finalizing the software, app, and overall user experience.
Because of that, we will need to move the expected delivery timeframe from the end of summer to approximately November–December, with our current goal being to begin delivering around the Christmas season.
I know this is not the update anyone wants to receive, and I truly appreciate your patience. Our priority is to deliver an ARK that works reliably, feels polished, and provides the experience you backed us for-not rush units out before the product is ready.
Within the next month or two, we expect to lock orders and send an email giving everyone the opportunity to confirm or update their shipping address, make any necessary changes, and ensure we have everything correct before fulfillment begins.

Production Update: Testing ARK With Our Manufacturing Partner in China

Hi everyone,
I’m currently in China working directly with our manufacturing partner as we move ARK through one of the most important stages of development.
For the first time, we now have ARK’s production-intent PCB, custom light panel, sensors, and electronic components assembled together with a full-scale 3D-printed version of the mechanical enclosure.
At first glance, this version may not look especially polished. The enclosure is still 3D printed, the internal components are exposed in certain areas, and it does not yet have the finished appearance of the final product. But this build gives us something much more valuable at this stage: the ability to test the complete system before committing to expensive production tooling.
This is where the digital design finally meets physical reality.
Mechanical Testing
One of our primary goals during this phase is to confirm that all of ARK’s mechanical components fit together properly and work as intended from the user’s perspective.
That includes testing important interactions such as:
- Making sure the removable soil pot fits correctly and registers properly when installed
- Confirming that the hinge system operates smoothly and supports the structure correctly
- Testing how the glass enclosure is installed and removed
- Reviewing clearances, tolerances, wire routing, assembly methods, and overall fit
- Making sure everyday interactions feel intuitive and reliable
These details may sound small, but they have a major impact on the final user experience.
During our testing, we have already identified several areas that needed adjustment. The good news is that we were able to diagnose many of these issues quickly and have already begun implementing solutions.
This is exactly why this stage exists.
Electrical and System Testing
We are also now able to test ARK’s core electrical and automated functions using the actual production-intent electronics.
This includes:
- The misting and watering systems
- The custom LED lighting panel
- Temperature, humidity, light, soil, and water-level sensors
- Airflow and environmental controls
- Firmware and device communication
- Software commands and automated functions
ARK contains a significant amount of technology inside a relatively clean and simple exterior. The electronics, sensors, mechanical systems, firmware, and software all need to work together reliably.
If these systems are not properly tested and calibrated now, even small issues can become much more difficult and expensive to solve after tooling and mass production begin.
That is why these tests are so crucial.
Preparing for Tooling
The purpose of this build is not to create a beautiful presentation sample. It is to prove that the product works mechanically and electrically before we open the final production molds.
Tooling is one of the largest and most permanent investments in the manufacturing process. Before moving forward, we need to be confident that the parts fit correctly, the electronics perform as intended, the product can be assembled efficiently, and the user experience matches the original design.
Over the past several days, I have been working closely with the factory’s engineers to test the system, review issues, make adjustments, and refine the design.
Every problem we uncover and solve at this stage brings us one step closer to a reliable production-ready ARK.
There is still more testing and refinement ahead, but seeing the production electronics, sensors, lighting, and mechanical structure working together for the first time is an important milestone.

Production Update: First Production-Grade ARK Sample Is Now Underway

Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a new production update and give you a behind-the-scenes look at where things stand.
We are now in the process of building our first production-grade ARK sample, which is a major step forward from our earlier prototypes. This is the version where the electronics, lighting system, mechanical structure, firmware, and app experience all begin coming together in a manufacturable form.
Over the last few days, we’ve started receiving several of the key components for this build, including the main PCB boards and the custom LED lighting panels. These are some of the core pieces that will help control ARK’s lighting, misting, airflow, sensing, and environmental automation.
You may notice that we intentionally blurred a few areas of the PCB photos. Sorry for the imperfect view, but we want to share real progress while still protecting some of the technical details from potential copycats as we move through production.
This stage is one of the most important parts of bringing a new hardware product to life. On paper, everything can look clean and finished. But once the real production components begin arriving, the product starts telling you the truth. Fit, wiring, heat, assembly, tolerances, firmware behavior, sensor communication, lighting performance, and manufacturing details all have to be reviewed carefully together.
That is exactly what we are doing now.
The current work includes:
- Receiving and reviewing the first production-intent PCBs
- Inspecting the custom LED lighting panels and layout
- Preparing the electronics for integration into the full ARK sample
- Continuing firmware development for device control and automation
- Continuing progress on the mobile app and software experience
- Coordinating closely with the factory as the full sample build comes together
Once the complete sample is assembled, I will be traveling to China to review it directly with the factory team. That trip will be focused on going through the product in detail, testing the system, diagnosing any issues, reviewing assembly quality, and making sure we are moving toward a product that is not only functional, but ready for real manufacturing.
This is the part of the process where a lot happens that is not always glamorous, but it is critical. Hardware is a thousand tiny decisions hiding inside one clean object. Every connector, board, panel, bracket, sensor location, wire path, and assembly step matters. We are now deep in that phase.
On the software side, we are also continuing to make progress on the app, firmware, and device control logic. ARK is not just a container with lights. The intelligence of the product comes from the way the hardware and software work together to monitor and manage the environment inside the ecosystem. That integration is still a major focus as we move toward the first complete production-grade sample.
I know many of you are eager for timing updates, and I completely understand that. The honest answer is that this sample build is a key checkpoint. Once we have the fully assembled unit in hand and I can review it in person, we’ll have a much clearer view of what still needs adjustment before moving further into production.
For now, the important news is this: real production components are arriving, the first production-grade sample is being built, and we are continuing to push ARK forward every week.

ARK Engineering Update: The Ecosystem Takes Shape

Hello Backers,
We wanted to share a behind-the-scenes look at where things currently stand with ARK and the manufacturing process as well as some exciting exclusive updates on the overall design.
Over the past several months, we’ve been deep in engineering refinement with our manufacturing partners, taking ARK from a functional prototype into a fully manufacturable product ready for production tooling and validation.
At the moment, we are finalizing several major systems simultaneously, including:
• PCB and electronics architecture
• Firmware and embedded controls
• Mobile app integration
• Sensor systems and environmental controls
• Internal mechanical engineering and part optimization
• Watering, airflow, and misting systems
Our current focus is bringing all of these systems together into our first fully integrated working engineering samples. These samples will represent the first time the complete hardware, electronics, firmware, and software ecosystem are operating together as a unified product.They will also allow us to test fully the entire system working together in order to make any necessary adjustments for production.
Along with this update, we’re sharing several new engineering renders that reflect the latest evolution of the design. These updated models incorporate many refinements made during the DFM (Design for Manufacturing) process, including internal layout improvements, component integration, assembly optimization, and overall system architecture. Please note that these are actual renderings of the engineering model CAD.
Another new thing we are excited to share is the watering system and top area which is redesigned and refined for user experience. Not only did we manage to make the top area thin and sleek but instead of being detachable as in our KS campaign videos, the entire top end simply rotates on a hinge in order to take off the glass. In addition, to refill the water tank, you simply pull up the tab and pour in the water through the top. Let us know what you think of this!
One of the most exciting things to see is how ARK has evolved from an idea and prototype into a real engineered product platform. Every subsystem inside the device is being carefully designed to work together to create a stable, automated ecosystem capable of adapting to the needs of different plants and environments.
There is still a significant amount of work ahead, but we’re making steady progress each week and moving closer toward fully functional validation units and tooling.
We truly appreciate everyone who has supported us and believed in this vision from the beginning. Building something this ambitious takes time, iteration, and an incredible amount of engineering effort, and we’re excited to continue sharing the journey with you as ARK comes to life.

On the Ground, Making the Call

Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a more real-time update on what’s been happening over the past couple of weeks, because this has been one of the most important stretches of the entire project so far.
On the Ground in Asia
I’ve been in Asia personally for the past several weeks, spending time inside factories, meeting with teams, and evaluating potential manufacturing partners face-to-face.
At this stage, this isn’t something that can be done over Zoom or through emails. The difference between a good factory and the right factory comes down to details you only see in person — build quality, process discipline, communication, and how they handle complexity.
ARK isn’t a simple product. It combines electronics, water systems, sensors, lighting, and mechanical components into one integrated device. Getting this right requires a partner that can execute across all of those areas consistently.
This process is about more than just selecting a manufacturer - it’s about choosing who will ultimately bring your product to life at scale.
We’re being extremely deliberate here because the decision we make now directly impacts timing, deliverability, quality, reliability, and long-term success.
Where Things Stand Now
We’re narrowing in on the right partner and working through final evaluations, including detailed capability reviews, production approaches, and alignment on expectations. We expect within the next two week or two to have that decision so we can continue to move forward
At the same time, we’re continuing to refine the product for manufacturing.
DFM Progress
Design for Manufacturing is actively ongoing.
This is where the product gets tightened up for real-world production - optimizing part design, assembly flow, and tolerances so everything can be built consistently and efficiently without compromising the design.
It’s a meticulous process, but it’s what separates a prototype from a product that can scale as well as having a product that will last and perform up to consumer product standards.
Software & App Development
On the software side, development continues to move forward in parallel.
We’re building out the core systems that power ARK - monitoring, automation, control logic, and connectivity - while continuing to refine the user experience.
Hardware and software are being developed together so that everything works as a seamless system, not as separate pieces.

We’re also getting ready to launch our new website shortly.
This will better reflect the product, the vision, and everything we’ve been building behind the scenes as we move closer to production.
Looking Ahead
Right now, the focus is execution.
Selecting the right manufacturing partner and completing DFM are two of the most critical steps in the entire journey. They’re not the most visible milestones, but they’re the ones that determine how well everything comes together in the end.
We’re making strong progress, and I’ll continue to keep you updated as we lock in the final pieces.
